This weeks challenge: Black and White.

The challenge: The challenge will be based around your children. Take or find a photo of your baby (or kid... or puppy... or kitty) in a black and white photo. This week I'm encouraging you to work with photo editing programs. Don't let it stress you out! Just play with it and have fun.

This was SO hard to choose ~ I have a TON of B&W's of my kids ~ there is something about BW that I just love. Maybe it's the simplicity and lack of distraction that comes from colour. It makes you see the picture in a different way. The colour has to come from the story IN the picture ~ the action, the light, the 'essence' of the shot!

I had many shots I could have chosen, quite a few were not 'my' kids but one's I've taken of the children of friend's  ~ I wasn't sure if that was allowed, so I played safe!

I took this one just a couple of weeks ago. I actually really love it ~ hope you do too :) !!

PaperMama Challenge ~ "Water"

WATER

Tough call this one! I had so many to choose from, just having had a beach holiday last month, but this one wins out. The light on my daughter is lovely. The captured water at her feet is lovely. The fact she is oblivious to the photo and looks so natural. The distant sea behind her. I love it all ~ I hope you do too! :)

Best Buddies...

My youngest two boys really are the best of buddies! Mischief is always to be found wherever these two are!! :) I love this photo of them both transfixed by the awesomeness of the swirling sea and the (mildly) crashing waves ~ and the temptation to scramble about on those rocks!!


POST SCRIPT ~ I forgot about this shot ~ not that it qualifies anyway because it's not about children, but I simply wanted to share it..!

... not exactly buddies as most of us mummy-types think of them, but these ladies made me smile : One had chips, one donuts, one sweeties and the other something else, and they looked so happy!! ;) They were definitely buddies!


Whilst taking this shot I also realised how difficult street photography can be (I'd love to do more). I had to be some distance away, avoid passers by, NOT be noticed by the ladies, and get a good focus etc... I love the fact that my camera has a swivel live-view screen, so I held it on my lap (I was sitting on a bench too) with the screen pointing at me and clicked when it looked good ~ a challenge worth repeating :D
