This weeks original was cute, but VERY dark.

I've not really any serious editing of underexposure before, so...

I started of in Picnik and this is what I got. (for reference sake - edits 1-4 as you read)
really don't ask me how I got there, I just know it involved a lot of levels and curves!!

Then I took the original into Gimp to see what I could do there;
edit 5
edit 6
edit 7
edit 8
I know I used layers, levels, curves and a few 'plugin' effects (can't remember what though!) and was overall more happy with these even though they took a lot longer. I just wish I could figure out the rotation in gimp without getting slices taken out - iykwim!
The rotation in Picnik is SO simple, but I had added the watermark, so I couldn't use it with the gimped edits, but I did have an extra little play with them back in Picnik - I couldn't resist!!
edit 9
edit 10
edit 11
edit 12
and a B&A of my shades of B&W
I think what I love about this editing lark is that you can get so many different outcomes from one picture - you can have your cake and eat it :D
As always click to enlarge anything (or hold down ctrl and scroll in!)

WoW!! You really put a lot of work into editing this! I have to say my favorite is #10.
*Since youa asked for advice* I think I would have cloned out Daddy's shirt :0)
great job. Edit 10 & 11 are my favs.
for those reading - I did try it with daddy's shirt cropped out, but I didn't like that the arm/hand seemed to come from nowhere - I thought the shirt gave it context, so I kept it - although I can see how it might be a little distracting :D
What distracted me more, however, were the ?legs in the top left - so eventually I cropped them out!
One thing I did learn was that it is unwise to add the watermark until you are 100% comfortable with your composition! This was the first time I had added one - I was experimenting and it was a hindrance because I added it too soon!
I think my fav' is no.10 too :D
I wish I had run noiseware.
I wish I had found and interesting texture or border to add that suited the picture. :D
I love edit 11! Something just mysterious and magical about it
