Fix-It-Friday No.24 - Blue Eyed Boy
This cute little boy was not as easy edit. Poor little man had a sore face and that needed to be edited out. I did it with the clone tool and airbrush, but feel I may have over-done it a little. The right side of his face looks a little to light, but shadowy to me now and the left side of his nose has lost its definition more than I would like. The blending is not quite right. Other than that I quite like it now. It has a softness about it that is pleasing.
I edited these hours ago, so I've lost my workflow in my head now, but it was something like this:
Increased the exposure slightly (about +16 I think) and the contrast to match, checked local contrast at 20%. Then rotated a touch and sharpened (1.6/36). After I had done the cloning and 'touch-ups' (airbrush, blemish fix, eyebright, slight mascara to add back eyelashes and brows) I then added ortonish & vibrance (both faded out) and then played around with the preset curves to get the different colour effects. The last edit also has 'cinemascope' effect and is cropped differently.
I only played with this in Picnik today, but I might have ago in paint.net or gimp later and see if I can work with the screen layer and add some textures... if I get time or have energy - it's been a busy day and looks set to be a busy evening too :(
post script:
After having a good read of how the 'real' photographers edited this, I had ago myself at using some layers. I don't have any version of Photoshop so I had to use a combination of Gimp and Picnik. Gimp for all the healing and hue adjustments and Picnik for the 'actions' (otherwise known as effects). I much prefer these edits, how about you? Lots of comments PLEASE!! :D
Initial Gimp edit;and then just to see if it worked I added a texture - not sure if it adds anything or not really!
